16th Annual WINGS Conference
(for Women INterested in Going to School)
Astoria and Seaside Branches of American Association of Women
and Clatsop Community College
1400 - 4th Street • Astoria, Oregon 97103
AAUW and Clatsop Community College are again offering women in our area the exciting opportunity to attend an award-winning conference about returning to education, and you can help. A winner of AAUW’s national Breaking through Barriers grant competition, the conference has offered outstanding help to area women for over a decade. The upcoming conference will be Saturday, February 10, 2018.
For twelve years, the Seaside and Astoria branches of AAUW in partnership with Clatsop Community College have sponsored a conference for women in transition -- women who would benefit by returning to school to complete their GEDs, start or finish certificates or degrees, change careers, develop or update their job skills -- whatever they needed. More than 600 have attended the conference since 2002. Of the WINGS “graduates,” most have enrolled in one or more classes at Clatsop Community College or other institutions throughout the state. Thus they enriched their own lives and also became greater economic contributors to our communities.
The conference is free to all participants, with lunch and child care provided. This day-long conference, held at the college, will offer workshops to encourage and facilitate re-entry into school. Workshops will focus on helping women reach their educational or career goals.
By attending the conference in February, students have time to arrange financial aid, take necessary prerequisites and enter sequential programs in the fall of 2017. They can enter the Lives in Transition (LIT) program in spring term. Many WINGS “graduates” enter LIT, a credit class in which they find excellent guidance and support.
Your donation can help a woman from our area return to school.
These are the costs students face this year:
• Admission fee, Compass placement test and fee, one three-credit class: $364
• A three-credit course: $334
• GED Test: $152
WINGS will appreciate your donation in ANY amount. Make your tax-deductible check to Clatsop Community College, and write “WINGS Conference” on the memo line. If a financial contribution is not possible, please consider an in-kind donation to be used as a door prize or, in the case of very small items, enough for 50 conference bags. Please include your business card with your postal address.
We also want to invite as many women as we can to take advantage of this opportunity. If you know of women who have not attended this conference and would benefit from participating, please pass along this information. If you are an employer, please recommend the conference to a member of your staff and consider giving her an incentive for attending. Women interested in attending WINGS can find specific information about the conference and about pre-registration, which begins February 1, on our website: www.wings-clatsop.com
